DVDs produced by Vision Quest seek to provide an opportunity for the modern urban and surburban person to experience the vision quest in their homes and other places of solitude, and thereby achieve and acquire many of the healing, inspiring and renewing benefits of the vision quest without actually going on a nature retreat for a month. This is done virtually through a DVD experience which visually and audibly immerses one in the natural world settings and events portrayed on the screen and heard in surround sound. Vision Quest DVDs are not fast paced entertainment. They capture aspects and dimensions of the natural world in their natural time and place. They reflect the style, pace and qualitative dimensions of the natural world. They are not enhanced to titillate or stimulate an already jaded society. What you get from them will largely be determined by what you can bring to them. They will only assist you in healing and renewing yourself, and assist you in finding new insights and new inspiration for yourself. These DVDs do not teach or preach anything specific; they are without narration or narrative text of any kind. They try as best possible to provide you with an unadulterated, unenhanced and unnarrated experience of aspects of the natural world, so that your experience with the natural world can be as direct and as intimate as is possible through the medium of a DVD. Vision Quest DVDs is a new company created in 2001 to produce and sell nature-based DVDs as an aid to people seeking to re-connect with the natural world for healing, stress reduction, inspiration, reflection, insight and meditation. In essence, this is what the vision quest was about in Native American tradition, as well as in the the vision quest experience in many other cultures and societies though out human history. People have always sought periodic separation from the rigors and stress of human civilization, searching for meaning and renewal in personal communion with the natural world as a source of relaxation, inspiration, rejuvenation, and meditation. Native Americans went on vision quests to find and deepen spiritual understandings, to acquire personal endowments of knowledge and power, and to build confidence and self-esteem through self-denial and communion with higher powers, to gain insight and direction for themselves and their people, and to acquire songs and rituals through visionary communication with powers normally unseen but inherent in the natural world about them. Cultural traditions similar to the vision quest have existed and still exist in many other cultures, but since we at Vision Quest DVDs are particularly close to Native American cultural traditions, we have chosen the title of Vision Quest DVDs for our company. |
